Barometers use AUDIT and feedback. An AUDIT is a search in the electronic medical record (EMR) and consists of one or more queries. With a query, we calculate the number of patients that meet a certain quality indicator, e.g., the number of diabetes patients who had an HbA1c measurement in the past year. With feedback, we want to give general practitioners insight into their registration quality and their quality of care. Using benchmarking, practices can compare their performance with other practices in their network or region.
With barometer technology, we want to provide all Belgian general practitioners with the necessary tools to implement AUDIT and Feedback in their practice. This supports them in managing their practice population. We aim to automate the AUDIT and feedback process as much as possible and fully integrate it into the EMR. For the barometer projects, we work intensively with various partners such as Sciensano, EMR developers, and other universities.
The Intego network serves as a testing ground for new barometer projects. This way, Intego registrars also have the opportunity to help shape the feedback. Additionally, more AUDIT and feedback projects will be developed within Intego in the future than barometers can be developed. We want to support our registrars as best as possible in further improving the use of the EMR and improving the quality of care.
